Do you work from home?

Hanacodes👩🏽‍💻 - 2 days, 5 hours ago

I think everyone's working from home right now? So yeah.

I learnt the basics at university. But most of the stuff I know now I learnt by myself. You just have to trust yourself. People are out here getting six figure jobs on basic HTML skills. Build 6-10 projects, make a portfolio and get yourself out there.

What is your top tips for making programming languages stick? Im

Hanacodes👩🏽‍💻 - 2 days, 5 hours ago

Projects, practice, close down everything and keep going.

I usually manually write out the code by hand if it's something new I'm learning. This helps a lot, I write it out a few times & do some coding challenges to make it stick.

Are you married?

Hanacodes👩🏽‍💻 - 2 days, 5 hours ago

No I'm not married, what I've learnt from my previous marriage was both parties need active communication, patience, mutual respect, brutal honesty with yourself and your spouse and the drive to make the relationship work & also drive to build their own lives. You should have a life outside of …

How did you start off as a freelancer?

Hanacodes👩🏽‍💻 - 1 week, 5 days ago

Best time to start is now.. why not? Don't ever work for free - do your own side projects and build your portfoilo that way. I only use social media to advertise myself.

Prayer, and more prayer. Having faith in god and knowing that things will always get easier. I'm a big believer in "You'll never be put in a postion without having been given the ability to get out of it."

How has your tech career been so far?

Hanacodes👩🏽‍💻 - 1 week, 5 days ago

Okay i'm gonna break this question down into bullet points.

What i wish i knew before getting into tech? That its going to be very hard to get my foot in the door as a black muslim woman, that life is always going to be more challenging for us -  that i dont need a degree to do wh…

Would you recommend using platforms like freelancer to find work?

Hanacodes👩🏽‍💻 - 1 week, 5 days ago

Yes and no. Because it's heavily saturated, I've never used this myself.. so can't give you my personal experience but I've hired from there and you've gotta really stand out from the crowd and there's a lot of amazing people on there.

whats your current tech stack?

Hanacodes👩🏽‍💻 - 1 week, 5 days ago

I'm a full stack dev, so I've got about 10/12 language under my belt. I've currently been doing front end developement exclusively for clients for the last six months so CSS, JavaScript, React. But Java will always hold a special place in my heart.

This is a funny one, I got pregnant at the end of the second year of uni.. it was either drop out of uni or Carry on? So I chose to carry on especially since I've got someone that's looking up to me now and I do love a challenge 😂

getting a CS job after uni with low GPA/grades

Hanacodes👩🏽‍💻 - 1 week, 5 days ago

Hey! in regards to getting a job, it's all about what you know - how good your skills are and selling yourself.

Regardless of what grades you get, majority of jobs care about:

1) if you can do the job

2) what skills you bring

3) your willingness to learn

4) if you can adapt&n…

Is hitting children bad or OK in some situations. Thoughts?

Hanacodes👩🏽‍💻 - 3 months, 2 weeks ago

Hitting is never the answer. You're just teaching your child that you don't know how to communicate effectively to get your point across. It's always better to teach your child how to communicate, handle situations and be a functioning human.

How did you get into coding?

Hanacodes👩🏽‍💻 - 3 months, 2 weeks ago

I've always been interested in computers, manipulating interfaces & creating things.

I traditionally went down the route of studying all sciences & then going to university to study pharmacy, after a year of that - I joined a few computer science lectures out of curiosity which I nev…
