I think Somalis in the diaspora are well aware of how much of our Soomaalinimo has been learned from and passed on by our ayeeyos, hooyos, habaryars, and eddos. The most interesting thing I learned is how much they bear the burden and duty of being the culture carriers for those of us in the West. They are to live not only as themselves, but as manifestations of what was lost to us as a community, culture, and country. Just makes me see who they are and what they do in a different light.
